Welcome – I’m Melissa!

Reaching out for help is a big step—and sometimes a little scary—so I’m glad you’re here. Finding a new therapist or starting therapy for the first time can feel like just another hurdle, compounded by the reason you’re seeking therapy in the first place. I hope this section gives you a glimpse into my personality, approach, and style—at least as much as an “About Me” section can!

A Little About Me and My Approach

Before any real change can happen, the therapeutic relationship needs to be solid. Let’s face it—therapy can be awkward at times, especially in the beginning. After all, where else do we have a designated space to reveal and explore our inner selves, with a person who starts off as nothing more than a stranger with a fancy degree? The beginning of therapy will probably feel different from the rest of it—and that’s okay. Think about your other relationships: they probably started off differently than they are now.

Despite the growing pains of a new relationship, I can promise you that I will always have your best interest at heart and work to help you achieve your goals. My commitment is to provide a safe, supportive environment where you can thrive. Most importantly, I will always be genuine, strive to understand your perspective, and gently challenge you when needed.

My Approach

Grounded in empathy and trauma-informed care, I take a relational and holistic approach to treatment. I believe the therapeutic relationship can be incredibly healing, and I tailor my approach to fit your individual needs and goals. With training in both insight-oriented and evidence-based models, I incorporate modalities such as ACT, ERP, CBT, and DBT. Recognizing our role in shaping our own lives is both a beautiful and terrifying realization. Once we recognize this, we gain the power to change our situation. Paradoxically, the things we most want to change about ourselves are often the things we try to keep hidden. Facing what we’d rather not look at can be difficult, but it’s also a powerful step in healing. I’m passionate about helping others overcome roadblocks, increase self-esteem, and rediscover themselves. Therapy has profoundly changed my life, and I hope I can help you do the same—or at least point you in the right direction.

Exciting News!

I’m thrilled to announce that a new office location will be opening soon in the Cambridge/Somerville area! In Massachusetts, I offer both in-person and virtual therapy. Starting in 2025, I will also be accepting virtual clients from New York.
